How I Got The Best Espresso Maker Deal

Tips on getting the top espresso machine

As I check out top rated espresso machine reviews, I noticed brands like Delonghi, Krups and Gaggia popping up over and over again. These espresso machines were supposed to be the best espresso machines of 2017 but their insane price tag was way out of my budget. Not to mention, I had to get a burr grinder too. All I really needed was a good espresso maker to help me explore the art of brewing.

I began getting impatient. There were just so many variables to consider. It may have been the impulse or the excitement but I was certain that I needed to get my espresso machine soon. So began the countless hours of research and sieving through reviews on the net. There were some really great sites that had really informative espresso maker reviews. Reviews aimed at beginners to help them understand what they are getting themselves into.

The Best Combo Deal

Delonghi EC702

The one model that kept appearing was the Delonghi EC702. Some sites called it the best semi-auto espresso machine under $200 and others called it the best espresso maker under $200. With so much flattery, I was convinced that the Delonghi EC702 was going to be my choice. For the burr grinder I kinda cut a few corners. Well it was a simple machine to begin with. All this contraption needed to do was produce evenly ground coffee powder from coffee beans(It was really cheap too). It was simple logic really, since it was tried and tested by so many other customers it was bound to be a good buy. I ended up purchasing the JavaPresse Manual Coffee Grinder.

I didn’t really know what to expect since I’ve seen neither of these machines in real life. In my next post I’ll share my first hand experience of what happened when I unboxed each of them.

The Day My Espresso Machine + Grinder Arrived

UPS delivered my parcel the very next day(Amazon was as quick as ever, No complaints there). Like a happy toddler on Christmas day, I unboxed my parcel and found both my Espresso machine and Burr Grinder.

Let’s begin with the beautiful Delonghi EC702. Even though this was my first espresso machine, it didn’t take an experienced barista to see how well built this machine was. It had a sturdy stainless steel construction. There were no dents or scratches(UPS did an excellent job this time). I flipped open the manual to see what perks this espresso machine brought me. It had a milk frother, a dual function filter holder that works with both ground coffee and pods, a 15-bar tank pressure, a water tank and even a cup heater.

It Needs A Few Tries

I was absolutely stumped. It seemed that it was going to be quite a challenge to even operate one of these semi-autos. So I looked followed the instruction manual to the key. My first cuppa was supposed to be filled with the taste of accomplishment. But, my masterpiece sucked. It had a metallic taste. Serves me right for not following what other users said. Many of the reviews I read stressed that I’d have to break the machine in with some low quality coffee grind to get rid of the metallic taste. Anyway, after the first few shots, the taste significantly improved. Note, this was me just following the instruction manual that came with the espresso machine.

Use Real Quality Coffee Beans

I haven’t tried using real coffee beans. I didn’t have the time to get to the store to purchase some Italian roast. I really plan to get some the next time I go out shopping. And milk. Milk is extremely important. How else am I going to try out the milk frother?

A Great Choice For Beginners

There was also a cappuccino recipe in the manual that I wanted to try out. It was a little tricky at first. And you’d probably want a super automatic if you get frustrated easily. To me, using this machine was like riding a bike, you’ll get the hang of it …. Eventually. I really think the EC 702 would make an excellent home espresso machine for those of you that appreciate a good cup of coffee. It isn’t that pricey and you’ll most likely want an upgrade once you hone your skills but it’s a good place to start.

Top Juicer Brands

If you have been thinking about getting a new juicer, it is understandable that you might be a little overwhelmed by the choices that you have. There are so many types, brands, and models to consider that it can be difficult to know which would be the best one to go for. Hopefully our short guide will help you to know a little bit more about juicers and which are the top juicer brands on the market.

types of juicers

Whether you prefer slow (masticating) juicers that are more waste efficient and provide juice that is more nutritious, or faster (centrifugal) juicers that are more powerful, can deal with bigger chunks, and come with more blades, there are many brands that will provide what you are looking for.

However, while there are so many brands to choose from, there are only a few that can be considered the very best. Of course, this does not mean that other brands will not produce good quality juicers, it just means that they are not known for being as good, reliable, or quiet as the leading brands we are going to suggest here.

Take a look at the three brands we recommend:

Omega

There is little doubt that when it comes to masticating juicers, Omega are among the leading brands and probably the best of them all. They are known for producing high yields of juice, their sturdy build quality, and for being quiet when being operated. Another reason for their huge popularity is that Omega offer longer warranties than most of their competitors do. We recommend checking out the Omega NC800, one of their latest and most popular models as it has a 15 year warranty and produces the high quality juicing that the brand is renowned for.

Breville

If you are looking for a brand that is known for producing centrifugal juicers that are simple to use and easy to maintain then Breville has to be right at the top of the pile. They are renowned for producing top of the line juicers and are without doubt one of the most popular brands on the market. Many of their excellent juicers such as those in their Juice Fountain Elite series have received some excellent customer reviews and are liked due to their modern designs, the quality and speed of juicing, and their ease of use.

Jack LaLanne

Another hugely recognizable juicer brand is that of Jack LaLanne, a brand that has been making high quality juicers for more than 20 years. Their juicers are known for being efficient, fast, and for effortlessly producing some excellent yields of juice. They have a wide range of models on the market but one of the best is without doubt their LaLanne Anniversary Edition. This model is cheaper than most of of its competition but does not sacrifice anything on build quality, reliability, and quietness.

Other Notable Brands

Among the many other brands that deserve a mention include Black and Decker, Oster, Hamilton Beach, and Cuisinart. Each brand has some excellent juicers on the market and should definitely be considered if you are indeed looking at getting yourself a new juicer that can whip you up some high quality and nutritious juice.

We do hope that this guide has proven to be valuable to you and that you now have a better idea of which brands to consider when looking for a new juicer. We recommend taking a look at as many customer reviews as possible before making a final decision but as long as you stick to one of the top brands above, you will no doubt end up with a top quality juicer.

How Do You Find the Top Juicers on the Market

The ability to make our own juice whether it is fruit or vegetable juice is not something new to us, in fact juicers have been around for decades upon decades now in some form or another. However, in recent years attitudes towards healthy eating (and drinking in this case) have improved quite substantially. This has led to juicing never being as popular as it is today.

Advancements in technology has also helped as well. We no longer have to spin our oranges on those funny looking plastic molds and can instead let fancy looking machines do all the hard work instead. However, due to this increase in technology and popularity, there are countless different juicers on the market to choose from and it can be difficult knowing which of them are the best and which of them would suit our needs better.

Many of you will be wondering “Just how do you find the top juicers on the market?”. Well like buying anything else, it just takes a little homework rather than heading to an appliance store and buying whatever machine the salesperson tells you to. They are paid to sell you stuff, some so good they could sell ice to an Eskimo in fact. Instead of believing what these salespeople tell you, you should be forming you own opinions from your own research online.

This is exactly what we are going to be helping you with in this short guide. We will be giving you tips on what you should be doing in order to find the best juicers on the market.

Do Your Homework on the Different Types of Juicers

What you first have to consider is that there are a number of different types of juicers out there. Some will be louder and faster than others, others will take a bit longer but will be quiet and more efficient, while some will be designed to be more effective on specific fruits and vegetables. The more knowledge you can arm yourself with before looking for your first juicer, the better.

The two most popular juicers are the either centrifugal and masticating. Those are some pretty technical words right? Well, though they sound pretty confusing, once you know the difference between them and the juicers they represent, its quite easy to differentiate between each of them.

Centrifugal juicers essentially shred anything that is put into them and then separate the pulp from the juice using a spinning motion. These will suit people that are always on the go and want their juice done quickly. The quality of juice is not as good as what you might get from masticating juicers but this is the compromise you take for the quicker results. in fact, the juice will have to be drunk within 15 minutes unless being put in the fridge because juice from this kind of juicer oxidizes pretty quickly.

Masticating juicers on the other hand use slow rotating augers to crush and chew the fruit and vegetables fed to them. This is all done at just 80 – 100 RPMs which not only results in a much better yield of juice but that juice also suffers very minimal oxidization. This type of juicer is known for delivering better quality all round but at the expense of time. it does save time in other ways though, such as not requiring much pre-chopping of the fruits and veggies as they can take larger lumps of them.

Now that you have a better understanding of what the main types of juicers on the market do, you are now ready to get to the next stages regarding finding the top juicers on the market.

Read Reviews

We have a huge information database at our fingertips which you will obviously know as the internet. We can use it to research any products that we are interested in buying and reading reviews and customer feedback from those that have already made the purchase themselves.

You will always get the odd review of a popular product that does not align with others but you should be able to work out which juicers are proving to be the most popular among customers.

Compare Juicer Prices

Once you have established what type of juicer you want depending on how often you are going to use it, what food you will be using it for, and have also narrowed down your search to a select few, the final step is to compare prices. You will know what your budget is, so now just have to look around for the best deals before making a final decision.

What you do have to consider is that some will offer longer warranties than others, so this can be a major selling point. Warranties can be offered anywhere between 5 – 20 years, so the one with the longest warranty out of your potential purchases might be the best to go for.

That is about it really! The more you put into your homework, the better informed you are about what juicer is right for you and your budget. Never just buy the first one that you see, and never assume that they are all the same. By using our guide above you will hopefully be united with a juicer to help you stay healthy for many years to come.

Fry or Oven Cook Meatballs

Pan-frying and baking are among the more common ways to cook meatballs, whether they’re ground beef, chicken, pork or a combination of meats. Whatever meat you use, most meatballs are prepared in a similar manner — combined with bread crumbs and eggs for binding and seasoned generously with spices and herbs to enhance the flavor. While pan-frying is the fastest way to cook meatballs, baking them is simple and can save you a few calories.

Prepping the Meatballs

You can use any type of ground meat for your meatballs, including beef, lamb, turkey, pork and chicken. Combine the ground meat in a bowl with bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese and eggs. You’ll want to use roughly a half cup of bread crumbs and one egg per pound of ground meat for balanced meatballs. Add about a teaspoon of salt per pound as well and a few pinches of fresh herbs, to your taste. You can also add a handful or so of Parmesan cheese, but you’ll want to reduce the amount of salt in that case. Other optional additions include onions, garlic powder, chili powder and a dash of nutmeg. Combine the mixture well with your lightly oiled hands, then roll into roughly golf ball-sized meatballs.

Fried Meatballs

Meatballs can be cooked in a variety of ways but are often pan-fried in the Italian tradition. If you plan to add the meatballs to a sauce, you can just sear them quickly in a pan coated with oil over high heat, then add them to a simmering sauce to finish cooking. To fully pan-fry the meatballs, you’ll want to bring the oil-coated skillet to a medium heat level and fill the pan with meatballs, without overcrowding them. Let the meatballs cook for about three to five minutes on one side, then carefully roll them over and cook for another few minutes, or continue turning frequently until they’re cooked through. Although not traditional, you can also deep-fry the meatballs in a pot of oil heated to a medium-high temperature. Fry them plain or rolled in flour and bread crumbs.

Baked Meatballs

Baked meatballs are ideal for those who want to reduce the fat a bit by avoiding the excess oil that comes with frying. They’re also a easier to prepare, as you don’t have to stay by the stove to turn them frequently. The oven should be preheated to a medium-high temperature, about 400 F. Add the meatballs, spaced about an inch apart onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or oil. Spray the lining lightly with cooking spray to avoid sticking. Once they’re in the oven, cooking time will depend on the meatball size and type of ground meat you are using, but should be roughly between 15 and 25 minutes.

Need To Know

Meatballs made with ground beef, pork, veal or lamb need to be cooked to a minimum of 165 degrees Fahrenheit, as recommended by the FoodSafety.gov, for safe consumption. Ground turkey and chicken should be cooked to 160 F. You can roll the meatballs ahead of time by freezing them uncooked. Stick them on a baking sheet, spaced apart and place them in the freezer until frozen solid, then put them in a freezer-safe airtight container until you are ready to use them. Store the meatballs for up to three months in the freezer. If you cook them and have leftovers, you can store them in the freezer as well, for up to one month.

Best Latte Art Brew

latte-artIt isn’t that hard to be your very own personal barista. I came across a recipe the other day that I tried out. The results really amazed me. I couldn’t believe I made such an amazing drink myself. The Mrs is a sucker for a hot latte. So I wanted to show off my skills and surprise her with the best homemade latte that I could whip up.

I wanted to try out latte art. Once I mastered how to make perfectly brewed espressos, it was time to step up my game. Snapguide had a perfect stream of images that demonstrated how to make a nice heart shaped latte.

As usual, I ground my Italian roast and made a well balanced cup of espresso. I then frothed the milk using the milk frother on my espresso machine. Well, snapguide even had a guide for frothing milk that really came in handy.

I tilted the cup and started pulling/pouring the milk into the cup. I swirled it around to create ripples so my heart shape would be accentuated. When the cup was 3/4 full, I moved the milk pitcher closer to get the foam to rest on the surface of the latte. Finally I pulled a tail and the heart formed. Plot twist.. That only happened on my FOURTH attempt.

My first attempt failed miserably. The only form of art I got was a big blob of foam (it could have been a ball). The same happened on the second and third try. But on the fourth try, with a few flicks of the wrist, I created the perfect heart shape to serve the queen with. The smile on her face was well worth the effort I’d put in.

Mexican Egg Dishes

I was talking with my friend Bill Moran from Texas Chef about Mexican Egg dishes the other day, so of course the Border Ranch classic Huevos Rancheros came up. I made Bill’s recipe from his book Cookin’ Texan for breakfast the other morning, delicious! What a wonderful combination of fresh flavors for breakfast! Also check out another Mexican Egg dish, Huevos Motulenos, at Texas Chef. Here is his recipe:

Eggs, depending on how many persons are served.
Use 2 eggs per person.

Viva! Salsa Ranchero (Recipe Below)

If you are preparing more than four eggs you will need to double the recipe for Ranchero Sauce. Most people like lots of sauce so prepare plenty.
Prepare the sauce per the recipe. Break the eggs into a small bowl (two per bowl) and when the sauce is simmering (not boiling), ease the eggs into the sauce and “poach” the eggs in the sauce. When done to order, remove eggs to a warm plate and keep warm. Repeat the process until all the eggs are cooked.
Some places serve the eggs atop a heated corn tortilla and top both eggs and tortilla with the sauce. Serve with warmed corn tortillas and hot Mexican chocolate.

VIVA! Salsa Ranchera Recipe

3 Medium-size Ripe Tomatoes, chopped, reserving juice or 1 – 15oz. Can Whole Peeled Tomatoes, drained, reserving juice.
1 Yellow Onion, chopped chunky
1/2 Cup Fresh Cilantro, chopped coarse
1 Large Chile Jalapeno, cut in half length-wise and seeds removed from one half, then chopped
2 Cloves Garlic, smashed then cut-up a little
2 Tbs. Oil

Heat skillet over high heat. Reduce to medium and saute onions, garlic, and jalapeno until onions are slightly brown.
Add tomatoes with their juice to onion mixture and simmer until sauce thickens a little. If tomatoes don’t have enough juice, add a little tomato sauce if available – if not, add water.
At the last minute add cilantro and mix into salsa.
